Welcome to Passport Amigo it’s good to have you along, buckle up!
Passport Amigo is my passion project to get more people out exploring the world. I don’t care if it’s a two week trip to your nearest coast, mountain or desert or a trip of a lifetime to Antartica; all travel is good for the soul as far as I’m concerned.
Hi, I’m Melanie. A procrastinating ditherer with a low boredom threshold, a restless soul and an adventurous streak. A confusing mix that doesn’t always work!
I took my first international flight when I was three months old and I think I’ve been hooked on travel ever since.
I’ve been to over 65 countries but as you can see from the map below I have some huge gaps that need filling. Rest assured, they’re on the list!
In 2013, after two years of soul searching, I finally decided to try and change my life. Big time. I wanted to tilt the axis of my world, walk down a different path and see where it took me.
Fast forward six months I left my job, finished eBaying most of my possessions, welcomed tenants into my home, left my beloved cat with my ageing parents and boarded a fight from London to Turkmenistan. What? Where? Yeah, I had to look it up on a map too! Apparently it’s the 7th least visited country in the world. Who knew?
Here I joined a group spending six month travelling overland to Singapore in a converted truck. (If you want to know more about overlanding, I write about it at Adventures in Overland.)
What would happen after Singapore? I had no idea and even less of a plan, I was just focussed on being away and being somewhere different – but I did want to stop being seen in socks and sandals.
After 18 months of travel I ended up living in a little solar powered house in rural Tanzania, east Africa; and this is where I’ve been based for the past 18 months. Who knows for how long.
So whether you’re dreaming of travel and want some inspiration, planning your trip and want product reviews and advice, or you’re out there already, all are welcome aboard.
If your passport is your friend, let’s grab it and go. Come on, what are you waiting for!
Places I’ve been in green…the rest is on the wish list!
